Patna, Jan 24 (UNI) Bihar Chambers of Commerce has been playing the role of a facilitator between the business community and the Income Tax department to ensure better revenue collection in the state, BCC president O P Shah said here today.
Welcoming the Chief Income Tax Commissioner at a function here Mr Shah underscored the need for more frequent interaction between the business community and the income tax authorities in Bihar to enhance the revenue collection through a better service mechanism.
Hailing the role of the Chamber in motivating more members as well as other traders in filing Income Tax returns sincerely to continue to make Bihar as one of the highest tax paying states as last year, Chief IT Commissioner S K Sinha maintained that the paying of income tax was important as it helps make the national exchequer look healthier. In return, the government was also working towards providing better service to income tax payers in every aspect, he said.
He refuted the alleged ''Carrot and Stick formula'' and said the theory would not work in revenue collection if the tax payers were not motivated to pay taxes on time.''Sometimes people fail to pay taxes because of ignorance and the income tax department needs to work on it''.
