Jaipur, Jan 23 (UNI) Senior BJP leader and party national treasurer Ramdas Agarwal said for the BJP government in Rajasthan, the reservation issue is a closed chapter.
Speaking at a function here today, he said providing reservation to the Gujjars under ST was an impossible task in the present situation and asked all political parties to take on the ruling BJP on political issues rather than on the sensitive issue of reservation.
He indirectly attacked the Congress of stocking the reservation as the party failed to take on the ruling party on political front.
He said ''it is time to leave behind the ghost of reservation'' and asked the Congress to steer clear of its policy on Gujjar's demand for ST quota.
He said the Committee constituted under his chairmanship for providing a package to the Gujjars on the recomendations of the Chopra Committee, would present its interim report to the government before the next budget session. The next meeting of the commitee has been scheduled on January 31.
He said the State government had already forwarded the report of the commission to the Centre and now it is for the Central governemnt to take a decision on the issue.
Speaking about the demand of the Rajputs for OBC reservation, he said many sub-castes of Rajput have already been included in the OBC and their demand could be entertained only by the Economically Backward Class commission constituted by the Centre and not the State government.
