Mumbai, Jan 23 (UNI) Maharashtra Pradesh Mahila Congress Committee has urged the Party leadership for a Legislative Council membership for its President Pushpa Bonde.

The Committee has made a separate representation to All India Women's Congress President Rita Bahuguna Joshi, AICC General Secretary Margaret Alva, Chief Minister Vilasrao Deshmukh and Maharashtra Congress President Prabha Rau to press for its demand.

According to the State Unit Women's Congress, Ms Bonde is a grassroot Congress worker, who has addressed several issues concerning women across the state.

''If she is nominated as member of the Legislative Council, it will benefit women in the state as they will have a voice in the state legislature,'' a statement issued by the State Women's Congress Committee said here today.

The Committee has also highlighted that NCP has nominated its state unit women's wing chief to the Legislative Council.
