Income criteria for identifying BPL families enhanced
Chandigarh, Jan 23 (UNI) The Chandigarh Administration has enhanced the income criteria for identifying below poverty line families living in Chandigarh from Rs 300.91 to Rs 432.09 per capita per month.
This has been done for the better implementation of Government of India Targeted Public Distribution Scheme introduced during the year 2001, Food and Supplies and Consumer Affairs Director R K Rao said.
Under the scheme, below poverty line families belonging to daily wages workers, potters, coolies, flower/fruit/vegetable sellers, black smiths and hand cart pullers are identified and issued yellow colored BPL cards against which they are entitled to draw 25 Kg of subsidized wheat/rice, levy sugar and kerosene.
The main purpose is to get more BPL Families identified for taking maximum benefit from the scheme.
