Melbourne, Jan 23 (UNI) The exclusion of left-hand batsman Saurav Ganguly from the ODI squad for the tri-series might have created a sudden outburst in India but the batsman is more focussed on the final Test match in Adelaide starting from tomorrow.
''I haven't given things a thought beyond this Test. It's an important match and I've got to stay focused. I'll think of the future once it gets over,'' Ganguly was quoted as saying by the 'Herald Sun' newspaper today.
The 35-year-old was not named in a 16-man squad despite averaging 44.28 since returning to the one-day team a year ago The 'Bengal tiger' is in superb form after his comebackformer but his lack of fielding skills didn't impress the selectors which cost him the ODI berth.
Australia skipper Ricky Ponting expressed surprise when he was informed that Sourav is out of the one-day squad.
''I am surprised and shocked that he is not in the side because right through this Test series, he has certainly looked good with the bat,'' he said.
Former captain Rahul Dravid and the stylish Hyderabadi batsman V V S Laxman are also out from the one-day tri series, which also features Sri Lanka, beginning February 3 after a one-off Twenty20 tie.
