CP shootout case: HC refuses to hear bail pleas of convicts
New Delhi, Jan 23 (UNI) The Delhi High Court today refused to hear the bail pleas of the ten convicts serving life imprisonment in the Connaught Place shootout case.
In the shootout, businessmen Pradeep Goel and Jagjeet Singh had been killed by the trigger-happy policemen in broad daylight in Connaught Place over ten years ago. The policemen had allegedly mistaken them for terrorists.
A division bench headed by Justice G S Sistani declined to hear bail pleas of the policemen. ''We will not hear the bail plea, but will hear the appeal filed by all the convicts challenging the lower court order of life imprisonment,'' said the bench while posting the matter to February 19 for regular hearing.
Assistant Commissioner of Delhi Police S S Rathi was among the convicts. They had all been sentenced for life by the trial court on October 24 last year.
The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) had submitted that the murder was without any provocation. The agency described as ''callous'' the action of the policemen.
