A person kidnapped, later released in Maharashtra

Mumbai, Jan 23: In an unusual incident, a 28-year-old youth was kidnapped by a group of eight people from Ghatkopar in eastern suburb and were later released a day after.

Rakesh Surendra Pathak (28) was on his way to Ghatkopar from Saki Nagar by a three wheeler tempo at 0055 hrs, yesterday.

Suresh Chowgule and seven persons halted his tempo near New Maniklal Ganesh Utsav Mandal and forced him to sit in their vehicle, police said.

They took him to Kolhapur and kept him confined in a room for a few hours. They snatched away all the valuables and forced him to sign a paper stating that he had borrowed a sum of Rs six lakhs from Chowgule and that he would pay the said amount in near future. He was later released at 1100 hrs.

Police have registered a case against Chowgule and others. No arrests have made made so far, sources added.
