12 Indian fishermen arrested by Lankans
Rameswaram, Tamil Nadu, Jan 23 (UNI) Twelve fishermen from this coastal town were arrested by the Sri Lankan authorities when they strayed into the territorial waters of the island nation.
Official sources here said the fishermen, who set sail from here in three boats on the night of January 21, were arrested and remanded to ten days custody. The boats were also seized.
The arrested were Xavier, Perumal, Salim, Veeran, Govindan, Gandhi, Chandran, Manoharan, Antonysamy, Balu, Gaspar and Valivittan.
Meanwhile, the Indian Coast Guard authorities held nine fishermen from Rameswaram who attempted to fish in the Lankan waters, disregarding the caution that landmines have been planted there.
