Yechuri calls for more investment in education
Kannur, Kerala, Jan 22 (UNI) CPI(M) Polit Bureau member Sitaram Yechuri today called upon state governments to invest more in Higher Education for preserving social justice.
The higher investment was needed to increase the participation of the youth in preserving social justice, he said while inaugurating a seminar on ''High level education in globalised time'' at Thalassery organised by All Kerala Private College Teachers Association(AKPCTA).
Cautioning against capitalists who invested money only for profit, he said they would even determine the quality of higher education, posing a challenge.
The state governments should increase investment in education also for nation-building besides exercising control over self-financing colleges during admissions, fee structure and salary of teachers, Mr Yechuri said.
The State must build political pressure through popular mobilisation, he said while cautioning the gap between shining and suffering India was widening.
