New Delhi, Jan 22 (UNI) The greatness of nations lies in their people and cultures, goes a famous saying.
True to this saying, a new series, to be premiered on television this January 26, seeks to present to the TV viewers the 'visual portrait' of some of the most vibrant nations of the world, including India, through the lives of peoples of these countries.
'Discovery Atlas', a new series to be aired on Discovery Channel every Saturday beginning January 26, attempts to peep into the history, civilisation, geography, industry and technology of India, Brazil, China, Italy, Australia, Mexico and South Africa through the glorious lives of the inhabitants of these countries.
The inaugural episode of the seven-part series, to be aired on the occasion of 58th anniversary of the formation of the Indian Republic, will focus on India.
Titled 'India Revealed', the episode will capture all the shifts and the changes within Indian society as the country strives to join the leading edge of the World's powers, all of which is set in the backdrop of India's diverse and visually spectacular landscapes.
Subsequent episodes, to be aired on the following weeks, will showcase life in Brazil, China, Italy, Australia, Mexico and South Africa.
Launching the series, at a press conference here today, in the presence of Ambassadors, High Commissioners or senior diplomats from the nations being showcased in the series, the Executive vice president and managing director of Discovery Networks India, Deepak Shourie said,''like many of the previous series aired on Discovery channel, 'Discovery Atlas' boasts of breathtaking visuals of the countries being showcased through use of captivating photography, highest quality production values and compelling stories that strike at the heart of a country and its people.'' A unique feature of the new series is the fact that each two hour episode will be narrated by a celebrity, including Academy award winning actor Russel Crowe (who will narrate the episode of 'Australia revealed), renowened International filmmaker of India origin Mira Nair (who will narrate the episode 'India revealed), Oscar nominee Edward James Olmos ('Mexico revealed), three times Emmy award winner James Spader ('China Revealed), Italian actress and filmmaker Isabella Rossellini (Italy revealed), two time Emmy aaward winner Andre Braugher (South Africa Revealed) and Emmy award winning Tv actress Sela Ward (Brazil Revealed).
Speaking on the occasion, Mr Shouries said in the making of the series, the production team of 'Discovery Atlas' travelled to different locations within each country using various forms of transportation including hot air balloons, propeller planes, bamboo rafts, canoes, riverboats, helicoters, bicycle taxis, motorbike taxis and subways.
For example, during the making of 'Brazil Revealed', the production crew flew 800 hours - if one person were to fly that amount of time, he or she would remain in air for 33 days.
Among those present at the press conference were Ambassador of Italy to India, Antonio Armellini, High Commissioner of the Republic of South Africa to India Sehloho Francis Moloi and Charge' D' Affaires at the Embassy of Brazil Jose carlos Fonseca.
