Temperature dips to - 5.0 degrees Celsius in Adampur

Jalandhar, Jan 22 (UNI) Punjab continued to be in the grip of an intense cold wave as night temperatures dipped further, with Adampur registering the minimum at minus 5.0 degrees Celsius.

This was the coldest night experienced at Adampur in the last three decades. On January 6, 1972, the Indian Air Force (IAF) base here recorded a minimum temperature of minus 5.2 degrees.

On January 22, 2007 Adampur recorded a minimum temperature of minus 2.6 degrees, the coldest night of the winters last year.

The minimum at Amritsar also dipped further with the Holy City recording a minimum of minus 2.6 degrees, the coldest night of the season.

The Halwara IAF base was also cold at minus 0.4 degrees Celsius. The temperatures also dipped in the Malwa belt where Bathinda was cold at 0.2 degrees while the border town of Pathankot recorded a minimum at 2.2 degrees.

The met office at Adampur has predicted morning fog and haze and a clear sky during the rest of the day.

However the cold wave conditions are likely to further intensify.
