Ludhiana, Jan 22 (UNI) Fuel cell technology can help provide ways for durable, highly-efficient, noise-free energy source requiring low-maintenance and can be deployed commercially, especially for farm machinery, according to an energy expert.
''Fuel cell technology is eco-friendly, as it is an zero-emission alternative to address the energy issues in the contemporary world,'' Cdr Daljit Singh Bawa, Manager, Ballard, Canada asserted today during a discussion on the concept and application of fuel cells at Punjab Agricultural University (PAU) here.
Cdr Bawa said fuel cell is energy converter without combustion that has been deployed in material handling, backdrop power supply, residential heating devices and in auto motives.
He discussed the ways this technology can be used in farming sector, especially in power machinery.
Illustrating the application of fuel cell devices, he explained that either kerosene or propane gas can be used for generation of hydrogen that is needed as basic fuel input for operating fuel cells.
He said there were many houses in Japan that use fuel cells technology for central heating. In many countries, including Spain, Sweden, Britain, Australia, the US and China, buses and other vehicles were being run on fuel cell technology.
He also discussed the concept of the 'next-generation' heavy-duty fuel cell modules with PAU scientists working on developing alternative energy sources.
