Fake currency gang busted in Moga

Moga, Jan 22: The district police has nabbed a member of a gang dealing with fake currency and recovered counterfeit notes worth Rs 19,000, Senior Superintendent Police Ashok Bath said here today.

On a tip-off police laid naka near Kotisekhan on Makhoo road last night and stopped the car in which Gurpreet Singh and Amarjit Pandit, both residents of Jhabal in Tarn Taran district, were travelling, Mr Bath said.

As Gurpreet alighted and was being questioned, his accomplice Amarjit, son of a police head constable, managed to escape with the car.

Police recovered Rs 4,000 fake currency of Rs 1000 denomination from Gurpreet's possesion.

They then nabbed Gurpreet whose further interrogation led to the recovery of fake currency notes worth Rs 15,000 of Rs 500 denomination, which he had hidden in the nearby field of Kotisekhan town.

Investigation revealed that both the accused were members of a gang dealing with fake currency and having links with the currency smugglers in the border areas.

A case has been registered against the two and the police is raiding the hideouts of the absconding accused.
