BMC fails to remove banners put up for Bal Thackeray's b'day
Mumbai, Jan 22 (UNI) Action for Good Governance and Networking in India (AGNI), a city-based voluntary organisation, today alleged that the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) had failed to remove banners put up illegally by Shiv Sena leaders and workers in the K East and H East wards in view of the party chief Bal Thackeray's 82nd birthday tomorrow.
''Many activists and locals have complained to the civic authorities about it but no action has been taken, as the Shiv Sena is in power in the corporation,'' alleged AGNI member James John.
The K East ward covers the Andheri area in suburban Mumbai, where the Sena has a sizeable following. Similarly, the H East ward covers the Bandra East area, where the Sena chief resides with his youngest son and the party executive president Uddhav Thackeray.
Civic officials, however, said most of the banners have been put up after taking prior permission from the corporation and they will act against the remaining ones.
