Mumbai, Jan 22: Eunuchs from across the country will vie for the coveted 'Miss Kinner/Eunuch Beauty Pageant', a unique contest being hosted for the first time in the world's history on April 8.
Alongside the race for the title, a fashion show will also be held. The event, which promises to evoke much curiosity globally, has already attracted a good number of entries, and the organisers said that the participation may run into thousands.
''So far, we have received some 1,000 entries, and the application forms are still in demand. In the metropolis alone, we have already received 20 entries, of the 200 application forms that we distributed on day one,'' Delhi-based Sushil Kumar Singh, the man behind the event told to the sources.
Mr Singh, who is at present in the city to solicit sponsors for the event, claimed that some big corporate houses had evinced interest in financing the contest which, according to him, aims at bringing this otherwise-isolated community into the mainstream.
Applications were also received in large numbers from Delhi, Kolkata, Patna, Bhopal, Chennai, Bangalore and Gorakhpur.
However, unlike other beauty contests, where the minimum and upper age limit is generally 18 to 25 years, in this contest, any member of the community in the age group of 18 to 30 years is eligible to participate in the pageant.
''As of now, most of the applicants are in the age group of 18 to 23,'' Mr Singh said.
Mr Singh also said he was trying to rope in prominent members of the community like Shabnam Mausi from Bhopal, Kali Hijra from Patna and Asha Devi from Gorakhpur as jury members.
''In addition, we are also in touch with other eminent personalities from various fields to become a part of the jury,'' he added.
