Andaman cyclist awarded after three days

Port Blair, Jan 22 (UNI) The Union Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports has announced a cash award of Rs 1,23,330 to B Neeta, winner of three silver medals in the 25th Asian Cycling Championship held in December, 2005.

B Neeta, is presently undergoing training in the Sport Authority of India (SAI), here.

The cash award will be presented to Ms Neeta on January 31 in a function at Chennai, Joy Kumar Roy, Assistant Director of SAI in Andamans, told UNI today.

Mr Roy said Neeta, a tribal girl of Car Nicobar was spotted by the Sports Authority of India in September, 2002 and brought here for training under its Special Area Games Scheme.

She has represented the islands in the National Championships and won about 22 medals, which include 11 gold medal, the Assistant Director added.

Earlier, the cyclist was also awarded with the island's most prestigious Lt Governor's Commendation Certificate.
