Chandigarh, Jan 21 (UNI) Punjab Chief Secretary Ramesh Inder Singh today exhorted administrative secretaries to ensure timely completion of important, flagship projects of the Government.
Presiding over a meeting of Administrative Secretaries here, he emphasized that the Government was committed to deliver on its promises.
He pointed out that work on several projects could be expedited merely by greater coordination and enforcement of good governance practices.
The Chief Secretary desired that priority should be given to the projects and schemes which were tied up with Government of India funding. The Administrative Secretaries should ensure that these funds do not lapse.
He urged them to personally monitor cases pending in the judicial courts since delay adversely affected Government efficiency and, at times, also resulted in adverse financial implications.
In the discussions, several administrative secretaries gave feed back and suggestions. While highlighting the financial constraints facing the Government, the Principal Secretary, Finance, requested the concerned departments to identify the areas where resources can be saved or mobilized.
It was decided that concerned administrative departments will send proposals immediately for taking maximum benefit of the National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme of Government of India. The NREG had tremendous employment potential and substantial funds were available with the Central Government which could be tapped by the State Government for various labour intensive projects.
The Chief Secretary highlighted the concern of the Chief Minister to make the administration more transparent, corruption free and accessible to the public and sought the cooperation and personal involvement of the officers towards achieving this objective.
