Kathmandu, Jan 21 (UNI) Nepalese Foreign Secretary Gyan Chandra Acharya left here for New Zealand today to attend the state funeral of late Sir Edmund Hillary, as a special envoy.
The funeral will be held amidst a ceremony in Auckland tomorrow.
Charge d'Affaires at the Embassy of Nepal in Australia, Mr Shankar Bairagi, will accompany Mr Acharya in the ceremony, according to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Hillary with Tenzing Norgay Sherpa scaled the Mt Everest, the 8848-metre high peak in 1953.
He helped establish hospitals and schools in Khumbu region, north east of Kathmandu.
