Jalandhar, Jan 21 (UNI) Defending champions Government Model School, Jalandhar blanked Sat Guru Partap Singh School, Bhaini Sahib by 4-0 while Lyallpur Khalsa School jalandhar, routed Guru Harkishan Public School, New Delhi by 6-1 in today's quarter-finals of 4th All-India Sardar Balwant Singh Kapur Memorial Schools Under-17 boys Hockey Tournament here.
The event underway at Olympian Surjit Hockey Stadium in Burlton Park here, also saw Government Senior Secondary School, Gurgaon eliminating Government School of Rampur by 6-2 while Bihar Regimental Centre, Danapur ousted Spring Dale School, Amritsar by 2-0.
In the semi-finals to be played tomorrow, Govt Model School, Jalandhar will face Bihar Regimental School, Danapur while Lyallpur Khalsa School will play against Government Senior Secondary School, Gurgaon.
Going all out in the closing stages of the game, local Government Model School pumped in three goals within a span of three minutes as they raced to a 4-0 victory over Sat Guru Partap Singh School, Bhaini Sahib in the first quarter-final match.
The winners were restricted to 1-0 lead in the first half.
Harjinder Singh gave Govt Model School the lead in the 18th minute.
On crossing over, the defending champions pressed hard and were awarded a penalty stroke in the 61st minute. Prabhdeep Singh converted it ease to make it 2-0.
Maintaining their pressure, Government Model School forward netted two field goals through Manpreet Singh in the 62nd and 63rd minutes.
Lyallpur Khalsa School, also of Jalandhar, upset runners-up Guru Harkishan Public School of New Delhi by a handsome 6-1 margin. The winners led 3-0 at half time. Lyallpur Khalsa School's scorers were Mandeep Singh (2nd, penalty corner), Gagandeep Singh (20th), Gurpreet Singh (30th), Taranjit Singh (49th), Jagdeep Singh (57th) and Gagandeep Singh Junior (66th). The lone goal for GHP School was scored by Hasan Raja in the 41st minute.
Bihar Regimental School ended the challenge of Spring Dale Public School, Amritsar by 2-0. Anup Topno converted a penalty corner in the 9th minute while Sanjay Herenj made it beyond double with a field goal in the 15th minute.
In the fourth quarter-final encounter, Govt Senior Secondary School of Gurgaon outplayed Government School of Rampur by 6-2.
Manoj (13), Munish (30th), Rohit Malik (43rd), Naveen Kumar (44th), Manish (58th) and Pankaj (62nd) were the winners' goal-getters.
Chandan Singh (33rd) and Ajay Kumar (65th) reduced the margin for Government School, Rampur.
