Kanpur wholesale and retail markets re-open
Kanpur, Jan 21 (UNI) The wholesale and retail markets of the industrial city of Kanpur re-opened after a long closure which was initiated to protest implementation of Value Added Tax (VAT) in Uttar Pradesh.
Kanpur Udyog Vyapar Mandal general secretary Manikant Jain said even after the three-week agitation, there was no relief given to the traders by the state government.
''Even the difference in VAT rates were not removed by the state government,'' he told UNI adding, the traders would plan a fresh stretegy in a day or two.
The markets were re-opened in the larger interests of the local consumers, Mr Jain claimed.
He reminded that the prices of all commodities had shown a rising trend during the past three weeks.
The UP government had imposed VAT in UP from January one this year.
