Perth, Jan 21 (UNI) Former India captain Sourav Ganguly has asserted that Australia's reign in world cricket is about to get over and India has stepped in the right direction to overtake Australia as the world's top Test team.

India shocked Australia in their favourite hunting ground, at the WACA, registering a 72-runs win. No visiting team, in last 11 years, had ever defeated the Aussies at Perth.

''Australia is still the number one team in the world but I think we have a very good side that could be number one,'' Ganguly was quoted as saying by 'The Daily Telegraph'.

He said the Australia is yet to face a team like India which has challenged the cricket giants time and again.

''We have a side which has played better against Australia than any other side in the world, which is a good sign for us.'' However, the left-handed batsman rued the fact that India could not win the Sydney Test after which India were 2-0 down in the series.

''I don't want to talk about the past but I feel we were very unlucky not to win in Sydney. We were happy to win in Perth and we think we can level the series,'' he said.

But the tourist are aware that the beaten Australian team will come back hard at them and will take no chances to field their best side for the Adelaide Test.

Harbhajan Singh looks set for a place in the playing XI for the fourth and last Test that starts on January 24.

The relatively inexperienced opening of the hosts in the third Test will get a major boost with the return of Matthew Hayden who missed the lost match due to a hamstring injury.
