Shillong, Jan 19 (UNI) The Congress today suspended senior Congress leader and former Meghalaya minister Edmund S Lyngdoh from primary membership of the party.

Mr Lyngdoh's expulsion came after he dissolved the Jaintia Hills District Congress Committee (JHDCC) last week without the consent of the state Congress.

He was the president of JHDCC and former Chairman of Jaintia Hills Autonomous District Council (JHADC).

'' We have placed him (Edmund) under suspension for his anti-party activities and we will wait for his reaction why he should not be expelled, '' Meghalaya Pradesh Congress Committee President OL Nongtdu told UNI here.

Mr Lyngdoh dissolved the JHDCC after the Congress denied him a party ticket and decided to contest the March three Assembly elections as an Independent candidate from Nongbah-Wahiajer constituency.

Mr Lyngdoh's sister Rita Lyngdoh, also denied party ticket, decided to contest the Assembly polls as an Independent candidate from Raliang constituency.

The MPCC had appointed JHADC Chief Executive Member H Nongtdu as the officiating JHDCC president.
