Major tragedy averted; IED and 3 feet rocket recovered in Kashmir
Srinagar, Jan 19 (UNI) Security forces averted a major tragedy when they detected and defused a 15 kg powerful Improvised Explosive Device (IED) planted in a passenger shed while a three-feet-long rocket was recovered in south Kashmir, official sources said today.
They said a 15 kg powerful IED, fitted in three plastic containers, was planted on the roof of a passenger shed at Khanabal on the Srinagar-Jammu national highway.
Police immediately sealed the entire area and traffic was stopped.
Later, the Bomb Disposal Squad (BDS) was summoned and the IED was defused without causing any damage.
Had it not been detected and defused, it would have caused much damage to life and property, they said.
Troops of 3 Rashtriya Rifles (RR) recovered a three-feet-long rocket Projectile from an orchard near village Khiram in Anantnag district. However, no one was arrested.
