Kozhikode, Jan 19 (UNI) Connecting Malabar region of Kerala to West Asia directly for the first time by a private carrier, Jet Airways will launch daily flights to Muscat and Doha from Calicut International Airport near here from January 23.
It will also launch simultaneous flights from Kochi to Muscat and from Mumbai to Doha, Jet Airways Chairman Naresh Goyal announced here today.
With this, Kozhikode would become the second city in Kerala to be connected by Jet Airways after Kochi from where it launched daily direct flights to the Gulf on January 5.
Aimed at providing a hassle-free and more comfortable service to passengers, Jet Airways would introduce advanced Boeing 737-800 aircraft in these sectors, he said.
On the possibility of stiff competition expected from other airlines, he said ''anybody is welcome to the field,'' and added ''we are used to competition.'' Regarding complaints of charging exhorbitant fare by the state- owned airline, he said, ''we are not for a fare war in the sector'' and added that the company would go as per the prevailing market trend.
He said the airlines had also proposed to launch services to other West Asia destinations including Abu Dhabi, Dubai and Saudi Arabia apart from European destinations as part of its expansion plan very soon.
Plans to connect Kerala capital Thiruvanthapuram with the Gulf region was also on cards, he said.
The airline is currently operating a fleet of 76 aircraft, including eight Boeing 777-300 ER, seven Airbus A330-200, 52 classic and next generation Boeing 737-400/700/800/900 aircraft and nine modern ATR 72-500 turboprops.
