Inspired Team India halts Kangaroos victory march

By Staff

Perth, Jan 19 : India defeated Australia at Perth, putting an end to Kangaroos 16 match winning streak. Australia who failed to recover after skipper Ricky Ponting's dismissal in the morning lost to India by 72 runs.

Last time India managed halted Australia's victory wagon in Kolkata, when Sourav Ganguly's men halted the progress of Steve Waugh's team. This is India's first ever victory at Perth.

Four days ago no body gave India the chance, but proving critics wrong Kumble and men were in sight of thrilling victory on the world's fastest pitch. India is the first team in last five years to beat Australia in their own backyards.

Despite having four fast bowlers in team, Australia were staring at defeat as India knocked out eight wickets one by one.

Sehwag and Kumble proved to be the chief architect of Indian demolition drive, getting rid of Gilchrist and Clarke respectively.

India now needed just two more wickets to create a history at Perth, which many thought 'impossible', four days ago.

Just when it looked that Gilchrist would threaten Indian chances of registering its first victory at Perth India's comeback man Sehwag dismissed him.

Soon, Brett Lee also departed giving Sehwag his second wicket of the day. Kumble was not far behind as he got rid of Clarke

Australia were 257/8, in their second innings post tea on the fourth day of the third test against India at the WACA on Saturday. Believe it or not it is Kumble and Sehwag who threaten the Kangaroos most on the world's fastest pitch at Perth.

Ishant Sharma, RP Singh and Anil Kumble were the wicket takers in the morning.
