DVC to produce additional 7000MW by 2011: Burman

Ranchi, Jan 19 (UNI) Damodar Valley Corporation (DVC) Chairman A K Burman today said that the company would enhance its production by about 7000 MW in next four years.

''By the end of 2011 the company would be generating more than 9000 MWs as works were on to increase the power production,'' Mr Burman said at a press conference here.

''At present we produce about 2210 MWs from thermal power projects and about 144 MW from the hydel projects,'' Mr Burman said.

Speaking about rural electrification schemes being assigned to the DVC, he said that works were being done in about eights districts of the state under Rajeev Gandhi Gramin Vidytuikaran Yojna.

Referring to other DVC activities he said that a Industrial Trainning Institute (ITI) would be established in Koderma by the company and two others in Bokaro and Hazaribagh would be upgraded.

''The state government has assured to provide two acres of land in Koderma on which the company will establish the ITI by spending about five crore rupees,'' he added.

Elaborating on other welfare programmes he said that DVC has planned to promote fishery in the state and water reservoir of Panchet, Maithan and Tillaya would be utilised for the purpose.
