Congress demands judicial probe into Kahalgaon police firing
Patna, Jan 19 (UNI) Bihar Pradesh Congress Committee(BPCC) today demanded judicial probe into the police firing on protestors in Kahalgaon.
The police firing had claimed lives of three protestors yesterday when they were demanding that the state government ensure regular power supply at Kahalgaon.
BPCC president Sadanand Singh, who visited Kahalgaon to take stock of the situation, said the state government was responsible for the tragic incident.
''Had the state government acted with responsibility, the incident could have been averted,'' he said and demanded compensation of Rs five lakhs to families of each of the victim who had been killed in police firing.
Mr Singh urged Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar to take steps for restoration of law and order in Kahalgaon and demanded stern action against the erring civil and police officials responsible for the incident.
'' The wrong policy of Nitish Kumar government was responsible for flaring up the tension in localities reeling under severe power crisis,'' he stated and added better monitoring of distribution of power was the only solution to such problems instead of resorting to police action.
Mr Singh appealed to the people to maintain calm and co-operate with the state government to normalise the law and order situation.
