Kolkata, Jan 18 (UNI) Some of the top squash players across the world will be in action during the Second Kolkata International Squash Tournament, a 3 Star Professional Men's International event from February three to eight.
In 2005, the club held its first PSA international squash championship in Eastern India where 23 players from over 10 countries participated.
Encouraged by the success, this year a 3 star event with 30,000 dollars prize money has been organized by the club through the Professional Squash Association (PSA) under the aegis of the Squash Rackets Federation of India.
The draw features the top eight Asian players comprising Azlan Inskandar (WR15) and Ong Beng Hee (WR 16) from Malaysia, Aamir Atlas (WR 29), Mansoor Zaman (WR 35), Farhan Mehboob (WR 52) and Shahid Zaman (WR 53) from Pakistan and our very own National Champion Saurav Ghosal (WR 47), Ritwik Bhattacharya (WR61) and wild card Siddharth Suchde from India.
Apart from the above, three Egyptians--Omar Mossad (WR 28), Omar Abdel Aziz (WR 39) and Amr Mansi (WR 66) make up the direct entries into the main draw.
Even the qualifying rounds promise high levels of squash, led by the current British Junior Open champion Mohd El Shorbagy from Egypt.
The tournament will kick off on February 3 from 4:30 pm with two rounds of qualifying matches being played on the first two days.
Four qualifiers will join the main draw of 16 players starting February 5.
