Mumbai, Jan 18: The Rupee today closed almost flat against US Dollar at 39.30/31 as compared to the previous close of 39.30/32 per dollar, despite a sharp fall in the Indian equity market on weak global cues.
The partially convertible Indian Rupee traded in a range band of 39.27 to 39.35 per dollar in an active inter-bank foreign exchange (Forex) market, dealers said.
The six-month forward premium closed slightly lower at 1.99 (2.0) per cent, while annualised premium ended at 1.65 (1.55) per cent.
Meanwhile, the Reserve Bank of India today fixed the reference rate at Rs 39.27 per dollar. The reference rate went up by two paise compared to the yesterday's rate of Rs 39.29 per dollar.
The Indian unit ended firm at 57.52 (57.60/61) against the Euro, while it closed strong at 76.92 (77.16/17) per unit against the Pound Sterling. Against the Japanese Yen, the Rupee ended at 36.60/61 (36.80/81) per hundred units.
