Bangalore, Jan 18(UNI) Bid and Hammer Auctioneers (P) Ltd, a full service art and antiques auction house and newer entrant in the Indian art auctioneering scenario will host its first auction in the city on January 24, Company Chairman and Managing Director M Maher Dadha said today.
He said in a press release here, that over Rs 10 crore worth of art and artifacts would up for sale in the painting category which comes in a mixed bag of 131 works with prices starting at Rs 30,000 and going up to Rs 50 lakh. It includes rare works of artists such as Jamini Roy, M V Dhurandhar, Gaitonde and F N Souza besides a host of other young contemporary artists.
The other section comprising 58 lots are the 'works of art' from the Rococo, art noveau, art deco and colonial periods and include porcelain, silver, glass, frames and furniture from renowned makers such as R Lalique and faberge amongst others with prices starting from Rs 20,000 and going upto Rs 35 lakh.
The entire collection for the inaugural auction would be unveiled for preview on January 21 at Hotel Oberoi and the entire board of directors and advisors of the company would be present on the occasion. The board of directors included luminaries and art connoisseurs like Maharaja of Jodhpur Gaj Singh II, Rukmini Varma (Artist and grand niece of Painter Prince Raja Ravi Varma), Savita Apte, Deepak Chopra and Pradeep Das.
Stating that the company also has plans to increase its size of offerings from the second auction onwards with a targeted turnover of Rs 60 crores for the year 2008-09, Mr Dadha said that "India is now ready for an auction house that will conduct generalist as well as specialist sales on a regular basis and across cities." The Bid and Hammer, established in 2006 was a full service auction house whose sales will cover all the major categories of fine and decorative art and antiques, the release added.
