Public Sector National Level Carrom Tournament on Jan 21

Chennai, Jan 18 (UNI) Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) would be hosting the All India Public Sector 2008 National Level Carrom Tournament here on January 21.

Talking to newspersons, BSNL Chief General Manager Egayaa said the four-day tournament would be played as per the rules of the Carrom Federation of India as adopted by the All India Public Sector Promotion Board (AIPSPB).

As many as 11 teams in men's section and six teams in women's category from different PSUs had so far given entries, he said, adding that about 100 to 130 players from across the country were likely to take part in the team event and individual event.

Former world champion A Maria Irudhayam, former national champions M Natraj, Yogesh Pardeshi and Rashmi Kumari would compete, he stated.

Mr Egayaa said about 24 technical officials from BSNL would be deployed as match referees. The team championship winners would get Rs 3,000 as prize money and the runners-up would bag Rs 2,000.

The individual winners of both categories would get Rs 2,000 each.

However, cash prize for slam events would be decided by the tournament committee based on the number of winners of slam events, he said.

Mr Egayya said a cultural programme to entertain the players would also be held on January 22.
