Mumbai highway robbers nabbed in Ahmedabad

Ahmedabad, Jan 18 (UNI) The city crime branch sleuths have arrested eight people of the notorious Shobhan Imla Mather gang near Thaltej area of the city.

Police yesterday arrested them. one of the gangsters included the tribal dacoit Shobhan Imla. The gang had robbed more than 100 vehicles on the Mumbai-Ahmedabad highway near Thane two months ago.

A convoy of Congress politicians from Mumbai was one of the victims of the gang.

Addressing reporters here today, IGP Crime Branch Ashish Bhatia said he had received a tip-off that Shobhan Imla Mather gang was coming to Ahmedabad to execute a big robbery.

The police then kept a watch on the Thaltej area, where the gang was supposed to pass through. On suspicion, they stopped a Tata Sumo Jeep and recovered two country-made revolvers and few bullets from the occupants of the vehicle, he added.

The gang is responsible for robbery worth Rs 3 crores, the police said adding that they had also robbed many people in various cities of Gujarat including Halol and Bareja.

Shobhan Imla, the mastermind of the gang is a resident of Jambua in Madhya Pradesh. He started with an armed robbery at a petrol pump and went on to execute big robberies.
