Kathmandu, Jan 18:Maoist leader Pushpa Kamal Dahal, better known as Prachand, will contest election from Kathmandu and his home constituency Chitwan. ''Party chairman Prachanda would compete from two constituencies, any one constituency of the capital city Kathmandu and one from home district, Chitwan,'' Maoist leader CP Gajurel told local media.
Prachanda will compete directly in the elections to the Constituent Assembly scheduled for April 10, he said. The election equation among the left forces, especially with the CPN-UML, were going on positively, he said. Such pre-poll understanding will be made for the 240 seats of the first-past-the-post. ''All the central members of the party will take part in the election, either through the first-past-the-post or through the proportional electoral system,'' he said, adding priority will be given to the home constituency or district.
Maoists had joined the government after signing a peace deal with other six political parties, including the Nepali Congress and CPN-UML vowing to abolish the monarchy from the Himalayan nation.
Elections for the Constituent Assembly are scheduled to be held on April 10 to pave the way for a new constitution that will decide the future course of Nepal and formalise the democratic Republic system which is already approved by Parliament.
