India rout New Zealand 6-1 in Jr International Hockey tourney

New Delhi, Jan 18 (UNI) Drag flicker Diwakar Ram and Sarwanjeet Singh pumped in two goals each as India continued their victory spree thrashing New Zealand 6-1 in the eight-nation Junior International Hockey Tournament at Kuala Lumpur today.

India had beaten South Korea by an identical 6-1 margin in their opening tie yesterday.

According to information received here, the Indians hardly faced any resistance from the Kiwis as they domunated the proceedings throughout.

Apart from Diwakar and Saranjit, the other goal scorers were Dharamveer and skipper Gurvinder Singh Chandi (one each).

Yesterday, Diwakar Ram had slammed a hat-trick against South Korea.

Other teams taking part in the tournament are Australia, Germany, Holland, Pakistan, South Korea and hosts Malaysia.

India is now slated to take on arch rival Pakistan in their third outing on Sunday.
