Deshmukh hails upgrading of Nagpur airport
Latur, Jan 18: Maharashtra Chief Minister Vilasrao Deshmukh has welcomed yesterday's Cabinet decision to approve the upgrading of the Nagpur airport to a world class passenger and cargo hub to boost tourism and international trade, saying that it would generate large-scale employment for the embattled Vidharbha region.
Talking to a serried class of journalists here last night, Mr Deshmukh said, ''It feels good that finally a long-felt demand has been met and it is a victory of the people of the entire state.'' He said the handing over of the project by the Centre to the state government would take place as soon as possible.
Procedural formalities regarding a third international airport near Panwel, near Mumbai, would start within the next six months.
