Delhi school records 5-0 win in Balwant Memorial hockey

Jalandhar, Jan 18 (UNI) Last year's runners-up Guru Harkishan Public School of Delhi outplayed Pooja Modern Senior Secondary School, Kurukshetra by 5-0 in the fourth edition of the All India S Balwant Singh Kapur Memorial School Hockey Tournament at the Olympian Surjit Hockey Stadium here today.

Enjoying territorial supremacy, GHP School were soon up by one goal scored by Ravinder Tweatia who struck his second goal in the 42nd minute.

Their other scorers were Laxmi Yadav (20th), Vinay Shukla (32nd) and Mehtab Singh (52nd, penalty corner).

In another match, Satguru Partap Singh School Academy of Bhaini Shahib defeated Indira Priaya Darshani School of Bhopal by 2-0.

Gurmail Singh scored the first goal for the winners by Gurmail Singh in the 36th minute. Then Amolok Singh converted a penalty corner for Bhaini Sahib Academy in the 43rd minute.

In a hopelessly one-sided encounter, Lyallpur Khalsa School of Jalandhar thrashed Sunder Lal Senior Secondary School, Rampur by 6-0 after having established a commanding 4-0 lead in the first half.

Jagdeep Singh (16th, 60th), Simranjit Singh (10th), Gurpreet Singh (21st), Taranjit Singh (23rd. 47th) scored for the winners.

Government Model Senior Secondary School, Jalandhar were held to a 2-all draw by Bihar Regimental School, Danapur.

At half-time Government Model Senior Secondary School, Jalandhar were leading by one goal scored by Manjinder Singh in the 15th minute.

The Danapur School hit back and pumped in two goals within a span of two minutes. First Rakesh Rosan Ekka restored parity in the 36th minute with a field goal and in the next minute Binay Bhengra converted a penalty corner to give his team 2-1 lead.

However, Jagroop Singh converted a penalty corner at the fag-end of the match.
