Congress terms HC ruling in Singur as "technical flop"
Kolkata, Jan 18 (UNI) The West Bengal Congress termed today's Calcutta High Court ruling Singur land acquisition legal as a ''technical flop.'' Talking to newsmen here, PCC working president Pradip Bhattacharjee said, '' In 1894 Land Acquisition Act, the state government could acquire land for public purposes. But when the Left Front government acquired the Singur land and did not mention it in the land record, we think that the case contains technical mistakes. '' A two-judge bench, comprising Chief Justice S S Nijjar and Justice P K Ghosh of Calcutta High Court today ruled that the land acquisition by the West Bengal government for the Tata Motors small car project in Singur was legal.
'' The Congress would move the Supreme Court after discussion with the party's lawyers' cell, '' he said.
'' The law will move on its own course and several laws had been changed earlier in the country on people's demands. So I am sure the oldest 1894 Land Acquistion Act would be changed in near future. '' '' We have earlier said the industrial houses should talk directly with the land owners about land purchase and the state government should not involve any land broker but if the government acquirs land forcefully in future, the confrontation with the Congress is unavoidable, '' he stated.
