Bird flu detection laboratory in Maharashtra

Mumbai, Jan 18: Maharashtra government Animal Husbandry Minister Anees Ahmed today said Maharashtra will soon have a high tech laboratory to detect the virus of 'Bird flu' which recently broke out in West Bengal.

Mr Ahmed, who had yesterday laid the foundation of the laboratory at Aundh in Pune, said the laboratory will be built up within a year and would be like the Bhopal laboratory in Madhya Pardesh, the only laboratory in the country which has the required detection facility of the disease.

On the occasion, State Animal Husbandry additional commissioner Dr V G Ramtek said with the opening of this laboratory, the state would be in a position to speedily control the disease.

He further added the state was fully prepared to control 'Bird flu' if it spreads in Maharashtra for which a team of doctors would be available to handle the situation.
