Andaman's Bengali Poet Invited To Dhaka
Port Blair, Jan 18 (UNI) Anandiranjan Biswas, renowned Bengali poet of Andaman and Nicobar Islands, has been invited as the poet-representative of the Islands at an International Poets' Conference in Bangladesh.
The conference, to be organised by the Jatiyo Kabita Parishad (National Poetry Council) of Bangladesh, is scheduled to be held at Dhaka on February one and two.
Mr Biswas is also a writer and editor and publisher of a magazine called 'Bak Protima', published from Andamans.
Anadiranjan Biswas won the 'Mahadiganta' award and Bankura Zilla Sahitya Academy Award in 2005 for his literary contributions.
The poet has a couple of collection of short stories, including 'Purba Express', a collection of poems 'Moitri diner jhara pata' and another 'Pratihkay bisshan bikal'.
Biswas translated Jaishankar Prasad's 'Chandragupta' under the title 'Abhinay Chandragupta' which was published by the Sahitya Akademi.
This is the first such occasion when any poet from Andaman and Nicobar Islands has been invited to participate in an international Poets' Conference.
