Mumbai, Jan 17 (UNI) Top seed Padmini Rout today moved to the top of the table becoming the sole laeder with 8.5 points after 10 rounds in the National U-13 girls chess championship being held at the Andheri Sports Complex here today.
Shalmali Gagare of Maharashtra and NLV Anusha of Andhra Pradesh were half a point behind and in the second place.
On the top board, the game between Padmini Rout and Shati Majumdar of West Bengal started in Sicilian Defence. In the end game, Padmini Rout made some excellent Queen's and Rook's moves and won the game comfortably in 52 moves.
On the 2nd board, Shalmali opted for Kings Indian Defence to the d4 reply of J Mohana Priya of Tamil Nadu, the joint leader till yesterday. The game was evenly poised till the middle game.
During the end game, Shalmali won a rook for her knight to win the game after 52 moves.
On other board, J Sharanya of Tamil Nadu played brilliantly against J Sahari of Andhra Pradesh and won the game in just 30 moves. The final round will be held tomorrow.
