Nagpur airport to be converted into international hub:Cabinet
New Delhi, Jan 17 (UNI) The Cabinet today approved a proposal for upgrading the Nagpur airport to a world class passenger and cargo hub to boost tourism and international trade.
The change would be brought about through a joint venture which would be finalised by a committee comprising the Maharashtra Chief Secretary and the Secretaries of the Union Finance and Civil Aviation Ministries.
Airport Authority of India (AAI) would invest Rs 4.9 crore in the venture in the form of equity.
The project would also benefit the drought-hit Vidarbha region of Maharashtra which has high incidence of suicide among farmers burdened with heavy debt, Information and Broadcasting Minister Priya Ranjan Dasmunsi told reporters.
