24 Indian judokas to participate in Commonwealth Championship

Patiala, Jan 17 (UNI) A 24-member Indian judo contingent will participate in the Commonwealth Judo Championship slated for January 22 to 28 in Mauritius.

Secretary-general of Judo Federation of India (JFI), Mr Mukesh Kumar, talking to UNI over phone, said the Championship is being held for senior and junior judokas as well as for Cadets and Masters (age group).

''The judokas for the Commonwealth Judo Championship are currently training here at the NIS and will leave for Delhi on January 21 from where they will fly to Mauritius,'' Mr Mukesh Kumar said.

The Indian men's team will comprise the following judokas: Sandeep (56 kg), Navjot (60 kg), Manjit (66 kg), Ram Asrey (73 kg), Yaima (81 kg), Anil (90 kg), Yashpal Solanki (100 kg) and Pawan (+ 100 KG).

The women's team will consist of: Ranjit Kaur (44 kg), Tombi (48 kg), Anita Chanu (52 kg), Nirupama Devi (57 kg), Garima Chowdhary (63 kg), Jina Devi (70 kg), Bittu (78 kg) and Divya (+78 kg).

J G Sharma is the coach for men's team while Satish Sharma is the coach for women's team.

Indian boys and girls in the junior category will also participate in the Championship. The boys team comprises, Sandeep, Manjit, Yaima and Rajinder. The girls team consists of Vijaylakshmi, Rekha, Kalpana and Garima.

Sports Authority of India coach Dastagir Ali will be the coach for the junior teams.
