Zoramthanga meets Myammar diplomat
Aizawl Jan 16 (UNI) Mizoram Chief Minister Zoramthanga met Myanmar Ambassador U Kyi Thein at his embassy residence in New Delhi discussing matters pertaining to border trade between the two countries, official sources here said today.
The Chief Minister and the Ambassador discussed various government projects within Mizoram. The Ambassador urged the chief minister to forward projects like border trade at Zokhawthar, establishment of International Trade Centre, speeding up Myanmar-Mizoram highway crossing of Falam, Tidim, Rihdil and Zokhawthar and cargo service to the Government of India.
It was also pointed out that an MoU on the much-said Kaladan Project is to be signed during the visit of Burma senior Vice-President in February next year. India's Foreign Secretary is visiting Myanmar during early February to facilitate the agreement.
Regarding the Kaladan Project, Mr Zoramthanga informed the Ambassador that construction of Lawngtlai-Myanmar road project was under progress.
The ambassador thanked the Chief Minister for his visit, stressing that Mizos and Burmese are distant relatives having the same ancestors. He also assured him to arrange meeting with the country's senior Vice-President during his visit.
Lok Sabha MP Vanlalzawma accompanied Chief minister Zoramthanga.
