Kolkata, Jan 16 (UNI) With a view to encouraging young professionals and students to chose enterpreneurship as a career option in West Bengal, The Indus Enterpreneur(TiE), Kolkata Chapter, will host TiEGER 2008 on February 1-2.
While addressing the press on TiEGER 2008, a TiE event being held for the second time, the last one being in 2006, TiE Kolkata Chapter President and VI eTrans Pvt Ltd MD and CEO Shoummo Acharya today said, ''In Kolkata, the attitude of the people in general is not encouraging for enterpreneurship. Unless there are in-house mentors to guide the young generation, youngsters do not get the environment to take up entrepreneurship as a career option.'' TiEGER 2008 has, this year, extended its parameters from just giving out awards to successful enterprises to hosting TiEGER Boot Camp and Cub Awards, TiEGER Connect and a special Bottom of the Pyramid award for enterprising ideas from hinterland areas of Bengal.
This special section of the TiEGER awards are intended to encourage people from the underprivilged sections from Durgapur, Siliguri, Kharagpur and Haldia.
About 150 students and young profesionals from all over the country will attend the two-day programme. Besides, 300 delegates, including enterpreneurs, large and small enterpreneurial organisations, angel investors, venture capitalists, lawyers, corporates, acadamecians and senior government representatives would throng the city to participate in the summit and mentor the young potential enterpreneurs, Mr Acharya informed.
The Boot Camp will provide a training session to 35 young professionals and students, out of whom three will receive the Boot Camp Award at the end of the summit.
Answering a question, Mr Acharya said, ''It takes at least 12-14 years to make an enterpreneur out of anyone, but the first step in Kolkata would be to create an ambience for the youngsters to develop an aptitude for chosing this line of career.'' TiE, founded in Silicon Valley in 1992 by successful entrepreneurs and professionals with roots in the Indus region, also known as Talent Ideas and Enterprise, will also be funding selected projects through the Business Plan Competition known as i2I(Ideas to Implementation) in partnership with the Indian Institute of Management, Calcutta(IIMC), National enterpreneurshup Network(NEN) and Seedfund Ventures, who are funding about Rs one croer for the projects.
''TIEGER'08 is an International Event on Entreprenuerial Awareness and Celebration of Entreprenuership in Eastern India,'' said Mr Acharya while discussing the aims and objectives of the event, and added that the event wil be jointly organised by TIE-Kolkata, IIM-Calcutta, Seedfund, IISc Bangalore, NEN and IIT-Kharagur.
