here.
Shreya was dressed in an ''indecent'' manner during the function to celebrate the silver jubilee of ''Sivaji-The Boss'' here on January 11, which was attended by Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M Karunanidhi and other stars of the film industry.
Taking up cudgels against the actor, Hindu Makkal Katchi (HMK) Chennai District President Ramamurthy had filed a police complaint, seeking legal action against the new heart-throb of Kollywood as her dressing had offended Hindu culture.
In a swift damage control exercise, Shreya had conveyed her regrets to Tamilians and Hindus across the State for offending their sentiments.
Accepting her ''mistake'', she said she never intended to hurt the feelings of Hindus or Tamilians. She had deep respect for the long standing tradition and culture of Tamil Nadu.
''I was unaware of the repercussions that would arise because of the attire I wore during the function,'' she added.
''I came to know about the silver jubilee function while shooting for a Hindi film in Thanjavur. I came to the function directly from the shooting spot,'' she said, conveying her apology to all Tamilians through the media.
She would be sending a letter of apology to Mr Karunanidhi and members of the Hindu community who were offended by her attire.
Actors courting controversies were nothing new in Kollywood.
Actor Kushboo was in the eye of a storm recently when she drew the ire of Hindu outfits for sitting cross-legged before the portraits of Hindu Gods during a Muhurat of a film and HMK was the first to file a complaint seeking action against her.
