Request to confer Bharat Ratna on Mata Amritanandamayi
Kochi, Jan 16 (UNI) Adding to the increasing list of recommendations for the coveted 'Bharat Ratna', Kerala-based cultural and service organisation 'Bharatiya Janapaksham' has requested Prime Minister Manmohan Singh to consider Mata Amritanandamayi for the country's highest honour.
'' The social service rendered by Amritanandamayi, popularly known as Amma, was unparalelled in post-Independent India and she had relentlessly worked for the uplift of the marginalised sections of the society,'' said Janapaksham President Puthezhathu Ramachandran.
Besides social work, Amma had made valuable contribution in the field of medical care and education, he added.
'' She was instrumental in the timely completion of the rehabilitation project initiated by her Mutt for the tsunami victims,'' he noted.
'Bharatiya Janapaksham' is the cultural wing of 'Kerala Janapaksham', a political party floated by former BJP leader K Raman Pillai last year.
