Kannur (Kerala), Jan 16: A 48-year-old man was charred to death and another injured when an LPG tanker caught fire after ramming into a compound wall at Mattanur in this district, today.

Police said the incident occurred when the tanker was proceeding to Palakkad from Mangalore.

The deceased was identified as tanker driver Ilayaraja, a native of Kumbakonam in neighbouring Tamil Nadu, police said.

Though the cabin of the tanker was fully burnt, the timely action of the fire force in putting out the blaze immediately averted a possible explosion of the tanker.
