Jeypore,Orissa, Jan 16 (UNI) The LTTE's link with Maoists operating in Southern Orissa has been established with the arrest of five top ranking naxalites throwing a big challenge to the Orissa police.
According to reports, five top rank naxalite cadres of Tamilnadu were arrested in Eranakulam a few weeks back by the Tamilnadu police who also recovered some arms and ammunition looted during the naxalite attack in Koraput in Februay 6, 2004.
The arrested naxalites, police said, have reportedly confessed their involvement in the attack. These naxalites were lodged in Tamilnadu jail since they were also involved in other attacks in many states.
Since then both the Koraput police and Tamilnadu police have been working in tandem to establish the role of these hardcore radicals on the attack on the Koraput town.
The Tamilnadu court, at the request of Orissa police, has allowed to shift the five hardcore naxalites from Tamilnadu jail to Orissa and accordingly a police team had been rushed to Trichu in Tamilnadu and took the five naxalites into their custody on Monday last.
Significantly, during investigations police got vital clues that one of the arrested naxalite had a direct link with LTTE.
Police now suspected that all arrested Maoists had some or other linkage with the LTTE. All the arrested naxalites, were sent to judical custody in Korput after they were produced in a local court here yesterday.
Official sources said the new revelation that Maoists have links with LTTE has forced the authority to sound red alert and asked the armed forces to be more vigilant on the movement of the Maoists in the area.
