Washington, Jan 16 : Johnny Depp has thanked the hospital that saved his daughter's life with a visit and a cheque of 2 million dollars.

Depp was so grateful to the staff at the London hospital for treating eight-year-old Lily-Rose in March last year (07) that he felt the need to write them a large cheque.

Depp and his family were in London for the filming of his movie 'Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street' when his daughter fell ill.

She was rushed to London's Great Ormond Street Hospital where she battled an E. coli poisoning that reportedly caused her kidneys to fail.

Filming was stopped as the actor keeping a bedside vigil for his daughter. She was discharged nine days later, and Depp has been quick to praise the staff at the hospital for all their efforts.

Depp, for his part, didn't forget the care his bundle of joy got at the hospital, and lent it a helping hand by turning in a 2 million dollar cheque, reports E! Online.

However, that wasn't the end. The actor also secretly turned up at the children's hospital on Nov. 29 and entertained youngsters there with bedtime stories in the guise of Captain Jack Sparrow. He is said to have had his costume flown in from Los Angeles for the occasion.

"It was the most frightening thing we have ever been through. It was hell. But the magic was that she pulled through beautifully," he said after the scare.

"Great Ormond Street was terrific, a great hospital," he added.

Depp also invited five doctors and nurses who cared for Lily-Rose to attend the party for Sweeney Todd last week.

Disney, who made Depp's Pirates of the Caribbean films, has also donated 20 million dollars to Great Ormond Street to help fund redevelopment of the hospital site.
