Mumbai, Jan 16: An article published in a British news daily on Ganapti festival has kicked off a row here with Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) demanding the publication to withdraw the article as it hurts the ''religious sentiments'' of the Ganesha devotees.
The Sena activists have also organised a protest at the British High Commisison here today to express its anguish over the alleged article. ''We will submit a memorandum to the British High Commission, urging it to direct the publication to withdaw the article immidiately,'' Sandeep Sudhakar Deshpande, Vice President of MNS student's wing told UNI today.
Since people like Amitabh Bachchan wield considerable clout in the UK, Mr Deshpande said, ''We are also shooting off letters to Mr Bachchan, who is also an ardent devotee of Ganesha and other Bollywood stars, apprising them about the article and requesting them to pressurise the publication to rectify the article.'' The article carrying allegedly ''derogatory remarks'' on Ganesha festival was published in the January 1st edition of the newspaper.
